True story from the UK: last year, our local hospital revealed its
bf stats, and there was much mutual congratulation that the
supplementation rate was 3.5 per cent.
Hm.
I looked at the stats, and the 3.5 per cent was a percentage of
*all* mothers, including the ones who had never breastfed at all.
When worked out as a percentage of mothers who initiated
breastfeeding, the supplementation rate was 26 per cent.
I sent some emails pointing this out, but nothing was done. 'Well,
they're published now, we can't do anything about it,' was the reply.
