In a hospital setting, we use supplemental nursing system to finger feed. We
Tape the tubing to the finger for support. Just recently we had a newborn
who allegely swallowed the tape, unknown, until the mother stated the
infant regurgatated the tape several days after discharge. She brought the
tape into the hospital to our nursing manager. She stated she and husband
never used feeder at discharge and went to bottlefeeding instead. Any other
tape incidence out there? I have changed our instruction in policy to not
tape and secure only with thumb or finger. Several reliable references use
tape while others do not.
