The hospital that I delivered both my children in was like this -
never once was there a mention of formula - in fact, the only bottle
I saw of it, was hidden on the top shelf of the supply closet in the
hall, that was normally closed, but a nurse was grabbing me
something. It was assumed that I'd nurse, and when my son was in
NICU, never once did they hint at a bottle, only urging me to learn
to pump, to bring in my milk, and to save the colostrum for when he
was able to have it - which they'd show me how to cup/dropper feed
it, not with a nipple.

The girl across the room from me, spent hours on end with an LC - she
was a C/S, and having problems getting sleepy baby to latch - so she
was brought a pump, and she pumped, while dad fed by cup - she wasn't
allowed to be discharged until they got the baby nursing, or at least
taking EBM with mom having access to a pump.

Of course, this is in Canada and not the US.....but there is hope -
this same hospital was formula-pushing when my younger brother was
born....so things are changing for the better. :)
