This is strictly anecdotal, but I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome myself - as
a result of recurrent mononucleosis infection as a teen and young adult (the
infectious diseases doctor at Duke said the virus went latent). I haven't
had an episode in years and I think this is probably due to a couple of
things: I have been pregnant or nursing for the vast majority of the past 15
years and most of my chronic problems are better when pregnant and nursing;
and I have finally figured out that I *have* to get enough sleep to stay
well. If I get shorted on sleep for more than a couple of days, I get a
sore throat, a few more days of exhaustion and I'm full-blown sick.
I would strongly urge her to sleep when the baby does, assuming this is her
first child, as a first line of defense. Sometimes I wish I could do that
again as I try to keep my eyes open another day with a newborn and six boys
to teach and mother :-) but I wouldn't really trade!
Some of you may be interested that after 6 boys, we had a little girl in
October. Susannah is the first girl in 40 years in my family and 36 in my
husband's!
