What a great idea for a meeting topic.

Making it easy for mothers to keep their babies close (as using a sling
does) is the single most effective way of maximising the emotional well
being of children (even including breastfeeding) in my opinion and it is so
simple! Good on your local WIC office. I am sure that they would have the
following reference but in case they don't they might find it
encouraging/helpful.

Anisfeld, E., Casper, V., Nozyce, M., Cunningham, N. (1990). Does infant
carrying promote attachment? An experimental study of the effects of
increased physical contact on the development of attachment. Child
Development 61: 1617-1627.

I'm also a sling fan and still use mine occasionally. When we were in China
recently however, (and my daughter was a bit stressed by the
travel/newness/being in China) I used it a lot! Up and down stairs, in and
out of temples and museums, with a 20 kg, 125cm, nearly 6yo, would not have
been possible to give her the closeness she needed without the sling.
