<< Of course there is another
> alternative to all of this, and that is to maintain a healthy diet>>
it's virtually impossible to get from food the nutrients that we would
have received from food in an evolutionary environment with an abundant
food supply.
the bottom line Valerie is that american mothers *do* have lower DHA
levels than many parts of the world and fish is no longer a safe food
source. since fish isn't safe (esp the ones high in the good fats),
then the only other real option for incr DHA to what would imo be
optimal levels, is supplements.
and it's not just fish oil and efa's. our diets no longer give us what
we need unless we move back to a traditional diet, eat organ meats
(something I just can't do), eat organically grown *wild* vegetables in
nutrient rich soils and insure that the only meat we do it is from wild
or at least fully grassfed meats.
by eating a modern diet - even a 'healthy' varied one based on whole
foods - we're missing alot of nutrients with which our bodies have
evolved.
