There may be some confusion between periodontal syringes and the silicone
soft tip.
The p-syringe (periodontal syringe) has a curved, rigid, semi-sharp tip.
The silicone soft tip is a "sleeve" which is pulled over the rigid tip of
the syringe and prevents any injury to infant. Many parents initially
learn to use a p-syringe with a soft tip applied. As they gain experience
and confidence they often discontinue use of the soft tip.
Silicone soft tips are reusable and are sterilized in boiling water. P-
syinges cannot be sterilized by boiling and are disposed of after a few
days.
Silicone soft tips were designed by the Lactation Institute and are
available from them as are the p-syringes.
