Hi Carissa
Unfortunately galactosemia is one of the few conditions that babies just
cannot breastfeed. They often don't show symptoms for a week or more so
it's not unusual that this baby is well. I would suggest that this mother
should have baby on the special milk that is necessary for this condition
while she continues to pump and store her breastmilk, hoping and praying
that the second result will give her the all clear to return to
breastfeeding. There are variants to this condition, but the classic
variant precludes breastfeeding entirely.
The risk of neurological damage is not one to be taken lightly.

Regarding using hindmilk trying to reduce the amount of galactose the baby
receives - it just doesn't work. Lactose is the most stable component of
human milk ie. the concentration in foremilk is the same as in hindmilk.
