"Convulsing chills with lactogenesis...... With each of my 4 babies, I
definitely experienced a postpartum phenomena, but I think it took a
week or two before it really set in."

I have witnessed this on more than one occasion, but with the same women whom I assisted during delivery and postpartum period for 3 of her children. Reading the post brought back vivid memories of the experiences with her. According to her, she had seen many medical professionals, none of whom could give her any answers. She was very aware that during labor or postpartum she was at a higher risk for these 'episodes". We are all instructed by her what to do if it occured, which it did. We put heavy blankes on her, and her husband would lay on top of her and we would hold her very tight, while her body shook wildly. After the episode, if cold air hit her, she'd start again. Lifting blankets to check the fundus or someone unsnaping her gown to expose the breast for feeding was potentially dangerouse for this women.

After reading the posts, I wonder if certain people a sensitive to "triggers" that transpire the episode. For some it may be "milk coming in" or stresses around delivery that possibly have to do with hormones. With all our sciences available, yet we still don't know all the answers.
