I was one of those mothers Winnie describes who couldn't remember whether
I'd moved the pin or not! I had an abundant milk supply with my first and
he quickly settled himself into a one-sided feeding regime, many years
before we started advocating it as a management strategy.
Several months into our feeding relationship I'd feel my breasts in an
effort to remember which one was the one that was 'due', but often they
felt the same. I'd then guess and start baby feeding - if it was the
'wrong' side the milk ejection on the side baby was 'supposed' to be on was
so painful that I'd very quickly take baby off and move him to that
side. The side that was not due to be used at that feed would remain
comfortable. I found this quite an interesting reaction.
