Hi,
When I worked with Swiss German speaking mothers, I learned the word for
breastfeeding in German was stillen. This word can also mean 'to soothe".
Saeugen means to breastfeed or to suckle and a Saegling which means baby-- literally
translates to litte suckler. These are high German words, and I suspect that
there were some Swiss German dialect that I was not exposed to-- but I always
liked the double meaning for stillen.
Tschuess,
Merilee
