How old is the mother? I personally was experiencing hot flashes in the
last year or so of my last baby's nursing (well, she was 4.5 when she
weaned) when she did wean, the flashes increased. I don't know if this was
a coincidence or not.

Is is possible that this mother is experiencing perimenopause? Are her
periods closer together and or shorter? Any other peri symptoms?

I would also have her have her thyroid checked.
