Hello all you wise ones,
I've been asked by a personal friend who is nursing her 16 month old for
advice. I don't know what to recommend so thought, after searching the
archives and coming up without the answer, I'd ask you for suggestions.
Here's the situation: Mom is nursing 16 mo old now twice daily. Has had some
light spotting to signal resumption of menstrual cycle over the last months,
but her period that began two days ago became very heavy today. She went to
her physician because of the heavy flow and MD recommended initiating birth
control pills, not the mini pill, 4 pills/day for 4 days, 3 pills/day for 3
days, 2pills/day for 2 days and continuing thereafter on one pill daily.
Mom's main concern is for her supply at this point. We discussed the risks
to supply and relative wisdom of "waiting it out" as this is the first full
cycle since delivery. Mom also expressed concern for hormone transfer to her
daughter. Anyone heard of such a regimen of birth control pills?
Any insights appreciated,
Susan Rook, PT, CCE, CLE
