I spoke to a human sexuality class offered by the Psych dept and found
the students didn't really see how breastfeeding fit into the
*psychology* of sexuality. I talked about breastfeeding from a woman's
point of view, addressing questions of body image, the benefits of
breastfeeding to a mother's conception of self and getting in touch with
her body. I also found they were really keen on the idea of good and bad
science that I presented, by explaining how formula manufacturers could
have an impact on research on breastfeeding and by giving examples of
misinformation and misconceptions -- it's important to keep this in a
very current context, in the here and now. And I agree completely:
"they need to know that it *matters*- that it isn't just "nice"- "
