I can't explain why we waste money and confuse the client by issuing checks
at 4 months while telling them to wait until 6 months to feed cereal. When
I first started working for WIC (as a consultant), many of the materials
still advised cereal at 4 months. I noticed last week that all the
materials we were using said start cereal at 6 months (however, we are in
the middle of a move so this may reflect what was available at the time).
It is not good budgetary policy to issue cereal checks 2 months in advance
of what the AAP, ADA, and WHO advise. The money would be better spent on
breastfeeding promotion and support.
