HI all! New kind of nursing strike that I wasn't able to find in the
archives or from experience.
Baby is 8 mos. old. Is co-sleeping and was nursing frequently during the day
and night.
she was just starting to have solids. About one serving every other day.
So not much. Things like: rice cereal, sweet potatoes, carrots, and
wheat-free cookies. Baby became real sick with what the HCP only called a
viral infection with symptoms of severe vomiting. HCP recommended giving
pedialite. Mom backed off of solids and tried the pedialite, but baby
didn't take to the bottle well (never had bottles before) and it didn't seem
right to mom, so she didn't push it and only tried for a couple of days.
Baby has now been over the vomiting for a couple of weeks now but won't
nurse. Mom can get baby to nurse while baby is asleep, a little, but that
is it.
This is the really strange part...baby keeps her tongue hanging out all day
and night like a little puppy. She keeps it out of her mouth so much that
is becomes dry and leathery. When mom gets baby to nurse while she is
sleepy she has to wet the tongue throughly with her milk first to make it
possible. Baby also often gags when nursing in her sleep. It's this tongue
thing and the new gaging problem that has mom so worried.
Can someone please give some helpful info or insights for this dyad?
