How do we get OUR opinions out? One way is to make sure some of our children are becoming journalists....that we are nice to people who have friends who are journalists or who are journalists.....And to keep on keeping on.
 
We've had a lovely article about our volunteer doula program followed by great coverage of our Breastfeeding Art Show in the local paper. The first article came about because the reporter was with her best friend when she had her baby (in another city) and she heard about our program and was able to get the article together while she was still interested.
I emailed her about the next event. We thought they might like a mother/baby picture (local papers LOVE baby and little kid pix) and it turned into a nice article and pix. The next week she called me about whether I had a mom she could interview about PPD. 
So - it's a bit of you help me, I help you -- a lot of it is BE READY with sources when the reporter calls. We also volunteer baby care columns for the local weeklies, etc. etc. It's a lot of work but over the years, it's paid off.
