Thank you to everyone who helped w/ ideas and alternative/complementary
therapies. The family doc was more than happy to add some things like
l-methionine, homeopathics and herbals.

Lisa, thank you for your Lactation 101 reminder about autocrine control.
Based on that fact, *this* is the theory that I proposed to the family doc
and he is presenting to the surgeon today after reading "the haughy note
that the patient won't heal until she completely weans"...I think that this
is a woman who is hyper-sensitive to stimulation. She is likely to be the
woman who will still be seeing drops of milk months after weaning if she
stands in the shower the right way or has a bra that touches her breast just
so. SOOOOO, by packing the incision sites daily, handling the affected
breast, changing the bandages, etc., *the affected breast is being
stimulated to make milk*. This is the short version of the theory...does
this make sense to some of you?

The family doc is meeting w/ the surgeon today to present this and is
guessing it will go over like a lead balloon. I hope it hits him in the
head and he comes to his senses <g>. The surgeon has not been able to get
me any evidence-based research to back up his recommendation that she wean
from the unaffected side to heal the abscessed side. Imagine that.

Sarcastically in KS,
Rebecca DeYoung Daniels, MBA, RD, LD, IBCLC, RLC & MOM to 5
