One glaring discrepancy in this letter is Mr. Yeutter's statement regarding
WIC and the "approach taken by USDA over the past three decades." He
apparently is not aware of the committment to promoting breastfeeding that WIC has
adopted since the early 1990's. And he also must not be aware of the potential
cost savings to the USDA when mothers on WIC choose to breastfeed and receive
less infant formula and "other foods." Did he miss the part about improved
maternal nutrition and children up to the age of 5?
