Mardrey,
Yes, I have seen swelling in the axilla when the milk comes in. It does
seem to be one-sided more often than two sided. What I have seen is rarely
associated with trauma of the nipple but frequently associated with primary
engorgement. Most moms report tenderness during menstruation in the same
area.
Sometimes the swelling happens again with the second baby but I have only
had a few come back with a second child and the same symptoms. I do not
know if the ones that do not return have the same symptoms or they just do
not feel the need for help with them. I suspect that what I feel is extra
breast tissue.
I have taken the Lymphatic Care of the Breast class offered by Upledger and
use LDT quite frequently. It seems particularly effective in these cases
and often I can get the swelling to reduce or disappear in less than 5
minutes without requiring a full treatment but just a little bit of
"hands-on" help.
