An interesting announcement>
The IBLCE Board has appointed James Akre as the new "public member" replacing Diony Young, editor of "Birth" journal, and longtime consumer advocate.
From the press release:
http://www.iblce.org/pressrelease.htm
Falls Church, VA - At its semi-annual Board of Directors meeting in September 2004, The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, IBLCE, elected two distinguished members of the international breastfeeding community to positions on the Board.
Mr. James Akré, who recently retired from his position of Technical Officer, Department of Nutrition for Health & Development at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, has assumed the position of Public Member. The Public Member's responsibility is to represent the public's interest, as opposed to the profession's interest, in the deliberations and actions of IBLCE's Board of Directors. In his position with WHO, Mr. Akré has been a great advocate for IBCLCs worldwide. He has contributed to numerous publications and frequently speaks at breastfeeding conferences around the world.
