I have received no response to my post from 6/9 concerning cholesterol &
triglyceride levels in breastfeeding women, so I'm trying one more time.
Does anyone know if these levels would be higher when a woman
breastfeeds than when she is not lactating? Ruth Lawrence has values
for breastfeeding infants and also has a section discussing the values
for adolescents & young adults who were breastfed in infancy, but no
where are levels in the lactating woman mentioned. I have a client
whose doctor is encouraging her to wean so they can do an "accurate
measurement" on a lipid profile. The doctor is telling her the levels
will be elevated because she is still breastfeeding a 13-month old. I
am unable to find anything to correlate or refute that. The obvious
implication is that breastfeeding is somehow potentially contributory to
heart disease.
Can anyone give me a lead?
