For what it's worth, I have a PIS and rented a lactina for 2 months when
latch issues led to supply issues.  I couldn't really tell the difference,
personally, though it's been a while now.  Plus, the expense was greater
than just the rental cost, since I needed the different style of tubing,
etc.  The cost was over $100.  My understanding of the difference in
recommendations was related to longevity of the motor -- that the Lactina
could handle a years+ worth of pumping 8 times a day, while the PIS could
not.
