Hello to all from Madrid,
Good news, my country seems to be taking an interest in breastfeeding. For the last months I have been getting in touch with the few people here
who work with breastfeeding, some nurses and some neonathologists. So far I have been asked to give a course to pediatricians in a hospital in
Madrid, I have to give one to their nursing staff too next month, I had to give a conference along with two neonathologists last week at a very
prestigious center. Not that the attendance was massive, but it was ok and specially many residents came. I think this is important, because they
arenot scared by new ideas (as if breastfeeding were new, but that is how things stand...).
So, nights have been sleepless for me since I have 23 month old Laura and 4 month old Teresa to deal with during the day.But I am so happy that
things look like they are starting to roll, even if it is little by little.
Next week I have to meet with the nurse supervisor of another hospital. She has asked me to tell her about protocolsor strategies to implement
breastfeeding in a maternity ward. I was thinking about telling her about WHOīs Ten Steps, but maybe that is too much? I donīt want to
overwhelm her,I want to give her something she can start using and I donīt know if Ten Steps is too all-out. What do you all think?
Thanks,
Kika
