I was wondering about this mother too. My thought was that I'd read
somewhere that the mammary epithelia cells are themselves a source of
extra-pituitary prolactin. I think this may have more to do with carcinomas
but it might just be possible that this extra-pituitary source might "kick
in"  - pure speculation on my part though.
