Just an update on my previous post. I had received a phone call from a
mother with a 1 year old that she described as developmentally delayed, very poor
weight gain and constipation issues.
I finally reached the pediatrician to let him know that this mother had
contacted me. Right off he told me that the reason he sent this baby to the GI
doctor was for the constipation and he did not feel the weight was an issue. He
said the GI doctor decided the weight was a problem and that the frequent
nursings must be contributing to this. He had not yet received the report from
the specialist.
I told him that the way I answered the mothers questions regarding still
nursing 8-10x/day and night nursings for a 1 year old, was that this was within
normal behavior. He totally agreed. I told him I suggested she try higher
calorie food. He was fine with this also.
He asked me if I had talked with this mother before and I said I had not. He
said that she tends to be over reactive. At this point, I have to take him
at his word since he has known and seen this baby for a year and has worked
with this mother through 2 children.
I will still try to reach the mother to give the suggestions I heard from
this group and see how she is doing. I will also see if she would be interested
in coming in for a visit.
