Thanks, Diane for the references about maternal nutrition and milk
supply. What do you think are the most important nutritional
recommendations for lactating moms?
The quote from the home study course troubles me, since they don't cite
any evidence for their statements. The main concern with rapid weight
loss is release of toxins from mom's fat stores into the milk, not
reduction of milk supply, but I too have read the "lower than 1800 kcal
per day=low milk supply". I do regularly recommend that moms eat at
least 10 kcal per pound of body weight per day, to help maintain their
lean tissue, and exercise for the same reason.
It stinks to have to scrutinize everything we read, doesn't it?
