I am the product of several generations of exterminators, and live by the
rule "for every 1 roach you see, there are at least 20 more"...
So, first I try a 48 hour stretch in the freezer (seal pump in garbage bag
and place in deep freeze for 48 hours). If after the freeze any live insects are
seen, send it to the manufacturer.
If I see more than a couple of insects in any pump, I send it back. Other
than the 8 known communicable illnesses that roaches carry, they can also be very
destructive to wiring, etc. If there are many, the pump will need a thorough
inspection.
