Chris,
This is so well put and good to hear someone say. People are
constantly commenting on how "well behaved, quiet, easy, happy, content" our 4 month
old is. Some other new mothers seem jealous and confused as to why my baby is so
"easy." I always say very matter-of-factly, that she is with me all the time,
breastfeeds when she wants, sleeps with me, and is worn in a sling when I
need my hands free. I love making it look easy and natural. But it is so hard to
watch these mother's with pained looks on their faces, droopy tired eyes, and
worried brows over baby's eating and sleeping habits. If only they understood
that all the choices they are making are the opposite of what baby needs. They
tell me they choose a certain schedule to make their life easier yet they
look tired and stressed while I cruise along well rested. Frustrating. I also
find lack of understanding of what is normal for breastfed babies to be the
biggest barrier in doing breastfeeding consultations. Most often the perceived
"problem" is really just a misunderstanding of what is normal. Then when I explain
normal patterns and behaviors, I see frightened looks of "I can't be with
baby that much." How sad.

On another note...did anyone catch the short segment on hypnobirthing on The
