No one mentioned that parents are free to change physicians, in effect
firing him/her! That is extreme yet it does happen as parents search for a
ped that is more compatible with their parenting philosophy. 30 years ago I
quickly discontinued amoxicillin for my exclusively breastfed firstborn
daughter. The ped on call, not our doc, prescribed it prophylactically just
in case of a possible concurrent bacterial infection. The local LLL leader
enlightened me that it was useless for my babys viral infection and could
result in thrush. My husband and I did not see eye to eye with him at all
and would never ever utilize him again. I refused to pay for that visit when
billed and explained why--it could have resulted in harm to our
breastfeeding relationship.

PS: My favorite baby book is the late Dr. Robert Mendelsohn's Confessions
of a Medical Heretic, which I think every mother and father should read.
