I wanted to give an update on the little guy with DS that I posted on a
few months ago. He was breastfeeding for a partial feeding about once
or twice a day at most when I posted, and mom was looking for some hope
that he would eventually bf. He went into heart failure last month, and
totally refused the breast. He had his heart defect repaired, and once
his chest was healed enough for him to be comfortably skin to skin with
mom, he started breastfeeding consistently and well. Mom's supply also
increased to more than meet his needs once he was doing all the
"pumping" (she has PCOS as well, has been treated with metformin for
several months now in hopes of attaining a full milk supply). He also
sailed through his surgery and recovery, which the hospital staff kept
telling his mom was due to his being breastfed! Mom now feels it was
definately worth it to pump for 4.5 months to have a breastfeeding baby now.
