I had students at a hospital in Detroit suburbs in 1990's and baby and mom
went together by wheelchair or stretcher depending on Mom's condition, they
would stop at nursery on way to drop baby off for all those important
details (weighing, measuring bathing etc.)

At U of MI hospital parents were allowed to pick time of first bath and it
was done in parents room and a traveling warmer, kept just for that purpose.
Mom and Dad could do bath, watch or assist.
