I'm a new LLL Leader and fairly new to LACTNET but I thought I'd offer a
resource that you may be able to contact so you don't have to re-invent the
wheel if you have a chance to do a presentation to the MDs about
co-sleeping. I recently attended a session at Nebraska's State LLL
conference entitled "I want My Mommy! The Co-Sleeping Controversy". The
presentation was by Laura E. Wilwerding, M.D., F.A.A.P., F.A.B.M, Clinical
Asistant Professor, Pediatrics, UNMC, Co-President Heartland Alliance for
Breastfeeding Advocacy. The presentation was well-done and backed up with
research from Dr. McKenna. She printed off her power-point presentation and
I have it and would send it to you if she will grant her permission. It is
very simply laid-out and I believe you could use it as a guide for
developing a nice presentation. It begins with the history, basis, and
benefits of co-sleeping, has an analysis of her Interpretation of
co-sleeping studies, , addresses problems with existing sleep research,
comments on the basis for the CPSC recommendations and hits the CPSC head-on
with examples of their biases. A very nice presentation.
