We have the same issues at our hospital regarding whether the LC's can point
out a tongue-tie to parents prior to the pedi mentioning it. We have decided
to write up an information sheet on tongut-tie that can be given to parents.
This will go before the pedi group for their approval.
My question to this group is there any reference to the statement "a short
frenulum will stretch"? I hear pediatricians saying this all the time and is
one of their reasons for not wanting to act right away on a tongue-tie. I am
not saying this could not happen, especially on a less severe tongue-tie but is
there really any documentation to back this statement? I am not looking at
children who spontaneously perform their own frenotomies (such as running a
falling and the frenulum gives).
I don't know if Brian Palmer still frequents our group but I would be curious
if he had any data on this question.
