Rebecca,
Your comments about your own children sound so similar to my current
situation. My fourth nursling (10 weeks) primarily nurses at night. I realized
this when I noticed I was forcing her to my breast during the day. She also
like to take a little snack throughout the day and then doze off in the sling.
When awake she is engaged with her siblings or trying out her motor skills.
I also have noticed that my milk shoots across the room if she comes
off during a letdown. This led me to conclude that she prefers the side lying
position we are in all night because she can control the flow better (her chin
is small too). I see that she really gets most of her calories at night
because the position is better for her to take in a lot at once. People keep asking
"Are you getting any sleep with a newborn in the house." I tell them I sleep
great because she is right next to me. I sleep more now than during pregnancy!
In fact, most mornings I wake up and can't really remember feeding her during
the night. It has become so natural to both of us that it happens without
effort.
I love how much I am learning through this forth nursing experience.
She is so different from my others. Oh it is hard to know she is the last one.
Heather
