Dear Friends:
Thank you Esther, for sharing two such wonderful stories. I loved the
examples of things not being what they seem. It is easy to judge if we are
overworked or unwilling to settle down and really listen or the first part of the
story pushes a button in us.
I got a call on the Hotline from a mother who was sobbing so hard she
could hardly speak. In my mind, I was thinking "Well, day 3, hormones,
breastfeeding trouble........all reasons for a mother to weep." The story was that she
had delivered twins, one had died and the other was not expected to live and
she was calling to find out what to do with her breasts.
Another Hotline call was from a woman who adamantly was NOT breastfeeding
and wanted to dry up her milk. I felt myself bristle internally. I thought to
myself "Now why wouldn't she breastfeed? I bet I could get her at least to
try to breastfeed." The story was that she had relinquished her baby for
adoption and wanted to know what to do with her breasts.
    warmly,
