Being prone to yeast, I both took acidophilus and gave it to my children, on a regular basis. Besides avoiding yeast, I felt like adding that to whatever I was using to supplement my partial induced supply of breast milk was helpful for avoiding all kinds of intestinal problems that are more common in formula fed babies. I also recommend that other adoptive moms, or anyone else who needs to supplement their milk supplies, do the same.

My favorite formulation for giving babies is Primadophilus for Children. It is sold on many websites. It is designed especially for infants and young children, and is a tasteless powder which dissolves completely (especially important for going through a Lact-Aid tube). I just added it to the supplement I mixed up each morning, but you can also just put a dab on the baby's tongue, mix some with a little breast milk, on a spoon, etc.. I have also used the contents of capsules, but that didn't dissolve nearly as easily, so I liked the powder much better.

Aloha,
Darillyn
