It's possible that the formulation of the alcohol hand gels/foams might
have been different several years ago than they are now.  I find that I
actually have LESS hand irritation using the gels/foams for part of my
hand hygiene than I did when I was using exclusively soap and water.  I
wash my hands dozens of times at work during the course of a day.  The
current literature is showing that the gels/foams are effective for
sanitizing as well as kind on the skin.
