Some in this chain have had such fests for years. I once was asked to do an education talk for expectant parents of multiples at a BabiesRUs. When I got there, I was shocked to find out they planned to raffle a formula company-sponsored gift for attendees. I told them I'd have to leave without presenting to parents if the raffle went on with that gift. (The presentation was not BF-focused.) The manager was beyond po'd -- but I was more beyond than her to have been put in that spot.

I told her I'd be comfortable with a booth at a babyfest that had no outside sponsorship or gifts, even if the same company had a booth there, but I would not have anything I did allegedly sponsored by a WHO Code violator.

The manager switched gifts, but she really wasn't happy with me. Heck, I wasn't there to talk about BF, she said. (Nevermind they used my credentials in PR!) I wasn't invited back!

Karen
