I founded our local group in an effort to bring all the breastfeeding mothers together that I had taught/helped. There is no LLL here and our local WIC does not provide any services for BF. There is no LC and no birthing hospital.
I wanted to include pregnant and non-nursing mothers, or rather not discourage them from coming and learning, so it is advertised as a new mother support group, and the name is Mothers in Paradise
( which rides on the popular slogan used in the Florida Keys aka Come to Paradise)
As a grassroots and community effort with absolutely NO funds, it is a success for now 15 months.
It has been amazing to watch 80% bf for at least 12 months.
Last night we held a infant/cpr class for new mothers and fathers only in which nursing babies were welcome.
Community efforts are amazing, and I find that the name is good for press releases, but it is just referred to as " mothers group" by all who attend.
