Hi. The formula rep. just gave an inservice about the new formulas
(Enfamil), which I missed. The nurse told me later that the rep made
herself very clear about the fact that "the additives are FDA approved to
be used in their formula". I know there has been a lot of discussion about
this already and I read all of the info. on the FDA website about how
Martek Biosciences has been applying for FDA approval. I know the wording
has been a little tricky. I went to the FDA website to see if approval has
been given, but I was not able to find the info. that I read last time.
Does anyone know where to go to get the latest on this issue? I would like
to make myself very clear to the nurses also, but I thought I should check
the facts again in case something has changed.

Also, I thought this was interesting. I was talking with some of the nurses
and I made a comment that if breastfeeding were the norm we could possibly
have enough donor milk available to those babies who could not have mom's
and formula would only be used in those rare cases. One nurse made the
comment that she would never allow her babies to drink milk from another
woman! Even the pediatrician gave me a funny look when I told her about
human milk banks and how she could write a prescription for a baby in
need. She questioned the safety of using donor milk and seemed skeptical
of the idea, but she has no problem with these new formulas. We really do
have a long way to go--oh well it keeps life interesting! Maybe we should
all dress up like cows!

Thanks again for your time.
