Hi Katherine:
Re: the mother who has been advised to wean her six month old so she can get
back to the firing range--isn't this mom associated with the same US military
system that sent mothers of infants and toddlers to the Gulf War because that
is what these women signed on/agreed to do when they enlisted (months/years
before they had said infants-toddlers)? (And yes, I've heard all about the
"benefits" of working in the military.)
If someone has a plan for educating the military about long term
breastfeeding issues, please share. By the way, we've had many wonderful and
creative military nurses in our lactation education courses--nurses who are
making real and positive differences for mothers initiating breastfeeding in
their military hospitals. Kudos to them!
Karen
