Hi, I'm Peggy Phillips, RN, staff nurse in postpartum, newborn and level 2
nursery at a level 3 hospital in Mpls, MN, working those wonderful night
shifts for 20+ years. New OB homecare guidelines state LC certification
necessary in 2 years, and a lactation center is in process for the
hospital--I've applied.
I'm a mom of 5 (yes, breastfed them all) and love camp nursing on the side.
(NGYC on my screen name stands for that camp!) I'm also finding the world of
computing to be extremely interesting, and online exploration a lot of fun.
I've been reading Lacnet for the last few days, and appreciate the
willingness of everyone to help each other out. What a great networking tool
for problem solving and encouragement.
July 31 will find me taking the IBLCE exam, so you'll find my nose in a book
studying as well as learning from all of you. Any preparation advice
welcome.
What long term impact are you experiencing out of the hospital as a result of
short stays and breastfeeding? We're seeing frustration on the part of
families and care givers, as well as parents being ovewhelmed. A peds
telephone triage nurse told me she's finding the incidence of parents giving
up on breastfeeding increasing.
Thanks
Peggy [log in to unmask]
