Hi. I had a mom call who has been put on estrogen (Ovcon 35) for bleeding.
Baby is 5 1/2 months and doing very well. Mom started bleeding 6 weeks ago
and has not stopped. It has been heavy (very at times) and is not stopping.
No retained placenta. She is to start with 35mg 4 times per day for 4 days,
then 3 times a day for 3 days, 2 times per day for 2 days, and once a day
probably for an extended period of time.
Hale mentions that estrogen usually does not affect milk supply after 2
months. This mom is concerned about her supply. Even though baby has done
well and gained very well (over 15 pounds now) mom commented that it has
been a struggle to keep up a good supply. She really wants to continue
breastfeeding. Baby nurses about 7 times/24 hours.
Will such a high dose cause problems with supply even if it is short term
at the high doses? I hope this works because they are talking D&C and then
possibly a hysterectomy. This is her first child. They do not know why she
is bleeding so much and for so long. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank
you. :-)
