I really think the reason for the policy is because too many LCs tend to
"borrow" handouts etc. which have been developed by other LCs. Too often
this is done without any credit or reimbursement to the originator. This
certainly has to stop. I do not believe there is any deeper motivation
involved.
Valerie's question as to whether this would also apply in the case of
patented milk components is certainly worth looking into. They would need
to run it by their legal consultants to see if the current wording needs to
be changed in light of this question or whether "intellectual property
rights" do not include such patents.
