I don't have any studies for you on this, although my personal
experience would say not to put a newborn to sleep in a car seat. My
son did have problems with oxygenation when he was in a
seated/reclining type position. He was a preemie, but still, it makes
me nervous. How about sleeping with the Mom or trying different
sleeping positions and places in the house. If the baby really doesn't
want to sleep in the crib, there are so many other possibilities than a
car seat! also, the kid is only 6 days old. Give it some time!

Unfortunately, she is right that pumping when you are a school teacher
is very difficult. Not impossible, but teachers often barely get time
to go to the bathroom, much less pump two or three times a day!
