I think if you do your homework in terms of lit searches (hey -- don't have to bother, I did it and will tell you!), the biggest difference in outcomes is to get the baby to the breast as soon as s/he is interested.
Our vaginally-birthed babies go to breast that way, and I have not seen any difference between those who have Pit on board or those who don't. With C/S you get the third-spacing (fluid goes interstitial with the trauma of surgery) and those are the moms who wonder where those nipples came from.
It's amazing, itsn't it, how hard it is to even see something when it's a part of your worldview/paradigm. Who would think to mention IM Pit postpartum if it's just a part of the birth process?? (tongue in cheek here.)
