The description sounds very much like my own "after pains" and those of one
other mom who has worked with my midwife. After uncomplicated, unmedicated
vaginal deliveries we have both experienced violent shivering, hot flashes,
nausea (she vomits), feelings of blacking out. This seems to continue for 4
or so days, peeking at day 2-3, appx when our milk would come in, though
neither of us had linked the episodes to that. For me they where ties to
uterine contractions triggered by MER. Often I would have to unlatch the
baby and pass him/her to someone else in order to cope.
