Hi!
I am totally perplexed why the Midwives would tell a Mom to hold off
breastfeeding for 48 hrs unless its because they don't want the baby to come onto a
surgical unit if Mom is staying overnight for a few days. If this is the case
then Mom could pump and send the EBM home to baby. No one has said if Mom
would be an outpatient or a short-term stay patient.
I wouldn't want my baby to come to a surgical unit to visit and most probably
she couldn't be put on a maternity unit and bring a baby in to room-in,
though this seems to be a viable option if Dad or Grandma could stay with her and
help care for baby if it were a private room. Someone needs to get creative and
think outside the box and figure out who made this dumb rule.
As long as mom is afebrile I wouldn't think it would be an issue if a private
room were available.
Good luck,
