Sometimes sneezing is just sneezing! It is a normal response to
some irritation in the nose, sometimes as simple as a few grains of
dust. A classic example I saw once was a mom who was asking about
the fact that her baby sneezed from time to time and she worried he
might be catching a cold. As mom was asking the question, she was
rubbing the back of her finger against her nose as we all do, often
not even being aware of it, when we get a little tickle in the
nose. I simply said to her, "Maybe it's because he can't do what
you just did!" It was a real "aha" moment for her.
It is helpful to know the various signs of stress in an infant, but
each of those signs can also occur for simple, non-breastfeeding
related reasons also! Check for horses before asuming it's a zebra.
